Between Us and Us

بین ما و ما

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the number of Iranians who left their country as international migrants between 1979 and 2019 was approximately 4.2 million. However, this number is only an estimate and may not be completely accurate due to various factors such as unrecorded migration and other data limitations. Additionally, it's important to note that many Iranians have left the country as refugees or asylum seekers rather than as international migrants. "Between Us and Us" is a site-specific installation that addresses the loss of countless talented and exceptional individuals from Iran due to the dictatorship of the current regime. The installation, made from Persian rugs, symbolizes the cultural heritage of Iran, and portrays an abstract visualization of the mass immigration from Iran using excess motifs and patterns from the carpet offcuts. As an Iranian migrant to Canada, the artist aims to convey the magnitude of this loss through this work.
